WEEK 9- TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

UNGS 1201 WEEK 9  TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT     Self discipline seems to be the hardest thing to do for certain people. This is the situation where the society should take place to involve themselves in. If one head do his job and the others are not, how can we succeed? Applying transdisciplinary in the community could be a big role to play in order to reach the goals of sustainable development. Awareness should be spread so people can really know and realize that our environment never deserves to be treated like the way it is today. People consume too much more than it should be and that made the environment today exhausted and ill. Green economy should be started among our society to create a healthy finance.

WEEK 8- CHALLENGES TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

UNGS 1201 WEEK 8 CHALLENGES TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT     Easy to be said but not to be done. Everything has their own challenges to be faced before we succeed. Same goes to the SDGs either economically, environmentally or within society. For the economy part, I personally think that not everything should be relied on the government to do for me. So, I started to apply the concept of reusing products not only at home but also outside such as workplace. In my opinion it should start from the littlest thing we do in our daily. For instance, reusing soap bottle as flower pot not only reducing the amount of trash to be recycled that require costs but also good for environment by reducing plastic wastes. I apply this at home and also at the school I'm teaching. The more I look into the benefit of 3R ( reuse, reduce, recycle), the more I am fascinated by imagining how beautiful the world could be if everyone start to do these.

WEEK 7- ROLES OF UNIVERSITIES ON SD

UNGS 1201 WEEK 7 ROLES OF UNIVERSITIES ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT      Focusing on sustainable development as a subject to be learned in university is a good step taken. In this institution, the goals are even involve in the visions and missions. It is a bit upsetting that I cannot feel this surrounding fully due to the pandemic but IIUM always prepared the best for the students. As what I can see in student organizations, sustainable developing are still be worked on. For instance, as the secretariat of Communication students myself, we provide as useful platform as possible for the students in need and others. Those who may be having financial problems could be assisted and helped through the platform we provided. I can confirm that this way helped many students from the responses we got when we spread some news and info.

WEEK 6- ROLES OF INSTITUTION FOR SD

UNGS 1201 WEEK 6 ROLES OF INSTITUTION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT     As I can on what is happening in Malaysia today, wealth privileges are controlling our society. The concept of equity and equality should be applied in institution that serves the society. Some situations may be hard to make this happen but never impossible. For instance, in my classes where I teach I would always tell my pupils to clean the mess they made and that command would be for everyone without exception. But that seems not to be the situation in our country where someone from wealthy family could easily break the rules and that is what made us torn apart. The inequality between society's financial status have been a problem since long. This will be a big red flag for the society to create togetherness between them.

WEEK 5- SEJAHTERA (TO BE GRADED)

UNGS 1201 WEEK 5 (TO BE GRADED) SEJAHTERA AS LOCAL CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT     Sejahtera concept really caught my attention on how it could fit a wide and deeper meaning than what I knew before. As a muslim, anything we do and any goals we dream of, could never be far from the Islamic path as our main goal in this world is to get Allah's blessings. Tawheed will always be within anything we do in our life and Sejahtera concept involves this. In the Basic Philosophy class I took, we discussed on how our faith can be rated on what level we are in Islam. Are we a Muslim, Mu'min or Muhsin? It all depends on us. Have we ever give some benefit to our society or we just consume and never give? These questions play in my mind if whatever I did before is really beneficial for others and match the goal of Maqasid Ash- Shariah ( enhance welfare and prevent harm). So, I tried to take a look on my responsibility as Head of  Student Affair for Communication Students in ...

WEEK 4- MAQASID ASH-SHARIAH

UNGS 1201 WEEK 4 MAQASID AS-SHARIAH AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT          After learning about how Islam is related with sustainable development, this time we are taught the details about Islamic Law ( Maqasid Ash-Shariah) to work on sustainable development. I feel like I was brought to the days when I was taught about Maqasid Shariah back then in my high school. Then I look into myself, what did I do to reach the SDGs and if I followed the Islamic law. I then took note on how Islamic spirituality are needed if we want to reach the goals but not all spirit could be related to it. Only the best quality condition of the spiritual qalb (heart) that connected to the God can really produce a good result while working on this. When the heart got diseases, it needs to be cleaned by the spiritual virtues so it can produce a good quality of spirit again. Then I realized from this how our spiritual virtues can really affect our daily routines and be prepared to impro...

WEEK 3- ISLAM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (TO BE GRADED)

UNGS 1201 WEEK 3 ( TO BE GRADED) ISLAM & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT     Sustainability is not a new concept in Islam. But, how ignorance we are to not really realize about this? Al- Qur'an and Hadith already stated so much regarding the concept of sustainability. In previous class, I got to know how actually sustainable development concepts can be apply from the slightest of our daily routines as a Muslim. Islam focused on 3 points of sustainability for society, environment and also economy. From my previous notes, I have pointed a lot on togetherness where Islam already told us the concepts by strengthening brotherhood between us and being in a team to work for each others benefit with the concept of shura as everyone have different minds and leaded by someone who can bring everyone towards one goal ( caliphs). For environmental sustainability, I got to preview how much waste I made all my life from just letting the water runs from the faucet every time I take ablution ( wud...
